Janome Sewist 500 with 25 Built-In Stitches and Hard Case

Janome sewing machines are renowned for their quality build, smooth operation and precision. Consequently they are very popular among sewers. The Janome Sewist 500 is at the lower end of the price range while maintaining the quality of the range.

It’s a solid well-built machine but light enough to transport about. It’s also very quiet which is always a plus factor for me because it allows me to sew in the same room as my family while they are watching tv or reading. You don’t need to banish yourself to some lonely room with this machine.

The Janome 500 can be set-up quickly thanks to the automated processes built into it and it is capable of tackling most jobs, like mending, quilting and free motion embroidery. Let’s have a closer look at it.

Janome Sewist 500 Presser Feet

For the novices who are looking to get into sewing the presser foot is there simply to apply pressure to the fabric you are sewing. This allows the feed dogs to grip the fabric and keep it moving. You will use the foot for regular straight sewing.

With the zig zag capability the foot has an opening wide enough to accommodate the needle for the pattern. Technical improvements in sewing machines now gives us feet with many guides in them which have made sewing a lot easier and allow your creativity to come to life.

New machines are even more user friendly with snap on feet. You can change feet without having to unscrew anything, you just snap them on.

The Janome Sewist 500 Sewing Machine with 25 Built-In Stitches and Hard Case comes with 6 presser feet as standard. These are:

·         Buttonhole
·         Blind Hemming
·         Zipper
·         General Purpose
·         Overedge
·         Automatic buttonhole

The machine comes with a built-in automatic needle threader, no need to mess about trying to get the thread through the eye of a needle, it’s all done automatically. It has a jam proof bobbin system and the presser foot height can be adjusted easily to three different heights which included extra high for when you are working with thick fabrics.

I like the clear bobbin cover plate, this is a neat idea because it allows you to monitor how much thread is left without having to take the plate off. A cool feature which, though a small thing, adds to the ease of sewing. No more wondering if you have enough thread left to do another line.

The work space is decent and is lit by a lamp. All in all this is a great machine and you are getting a lot for your money. Janome sewing machines are the favourites of many seasoned sewers because they offer excellent quality and smooth operation. The Sewist 500 incorporates all these features and comes at an excellent price.

More Features

Since threads are cut neatly, you can easily start sewing again, without the trouble of tangled threads or an unthreaded needle.

The detachable sewing table easily slides out of the way to reveal the free arm – so handy for sleeves, cuffs and hard-to-reach areas.

Top Loading rotary hook system

Jam-proof, magnetic, top-loading full rotary hook system that eliminates the bobbin case for convenient bobbin insertion, removal, and cleaning. Thread is visible below the see-through hook cover plate.

What customers think of  Janome Sewist 500 Sewing Machine with 25 Built-In Stitches and Hard Case

My husband bought me this machine for an early Mother's Day gift. I am really new to sewing and so far am in love with my Janome!! It was so easy to learn to wind the bobbin and thread the machine, going by just the manual. I haven't sewn a thing since 8th grade home ec and after 2 days of practicing I've already hemmed some things and fixed a few seams in my husbands' boxer shorts ;) The machine itself is very solidly built and runs so smoothly, it makes me feel silly for being so nervous about sewing for so long. I wish I had gotten one years ago! I would definitely recommend this machine to anyone looking to get into sewing for the first time, or anyone who just wants a good, solid-running machine that will last for many years. I've always heard good things about Janome and this machine is no exception.

I love it, love it, love it. I haven't sewn for years, but decided that I would give a shot at making new bedding after taking a textiles class this spring. The Janome came with excellent reviews and a "test drive" revealed the excellent nature of the machine. The stitches are exquisite. And it is probably the easiest, most intuitive machine I have ever touched. It is solidly built and has more features than most sewers will ever use. I also like the fact that it is mechanical, rather than electronic (fewer things to go wrong). An all around great machine.
