A sewing machine might seem like an antiquated object for some,
but the truth is sewing is one of the biggest hobbies in the world for a
lot of people. Sewing machines themselves are still used in
manufacturing all over the world, albeit there have been a few design
changes over the years.

If you enjoy sewing, then it's a good bet
eventually you're going to need to get your machine repaired, but there
are some questions you should ask yourself before visiting a repair
shop.

1) Is It Worth Being Repaired?

The
truth is sewing machines aren't all that rare as they have been a
critical part of industrialization for a long time. So it's important to
decide exactly how much value your machine has to you, or if it might
be cheaper to replace it.

If you have an emotional attachment to
your machine, then by all means get it repaired. However, if it's one,
you ordered out of a catalog, it might be cheaper to buy a new one, then
to pay to have it repaired.

2) How Much Are You Prepared To Spend?

Deciding
on a budget will make the process of visiting a repair shop a lot
easier. You have to consider the cost of new parts, or that it might
have to be shipped off to an expert who can do the repairs. If your
sewing machine is a vintage model, the cost is most likely going to be
raised significantly as some repair parts are very hard to find.

If
you're unsure of what exactly it might cost, look at the price of a
replacement machine, and simply cut that number in half. Doing this
ensures your budget is set at a fair price, and you won't overspend on
repairs.

3) Is There A Local Repair Shop Around?

Depending
upon where you live it's important to find out if there is a repair
shop around at all. Now it might be possible there is a general repair
shop that can fix a sewing machine, but looking for a business
specifically dedicated to it should be your first choice.

You
might end up having to widen your search by a few hundred miles, and if
this happens then be prepared to make a long car trip to drop off your
sewing machine.

Furthermore, if your sewing machine is antique,
then a local repair shop might not be qualified, or have the parts
necessary to fix it. Make sure you get an upfront answer right away if
you think this might be a problem, and if it is your best bet is going
to be looking online for someone to ship it to.

4) Can You Prevent Whatever Happened From Happening Again?

A
sewing machine has moving parts, so it's inevitable that eventually
something will break. This doesn't mean you can't take a proactive
approach to preventing damage, and extending the life of your machine by
a few years.

So ask the person you take your machine to if there
is something you should, or shouldn't be doing to help prevent this kind
of damage from happening again.

The simple truth is you can make
the process of fixing your machine a lot easier by asking a few basic
questions, and now you know which ones to ask.
design, alter or repair clothes right in the comforts of your home.
However, if you work as seamstress, you should stay ready for all
eventualities, including breaking of your machine. You cannot do any
work without your machine, so it is useful if you learn some basic
machine repairs that you can do at home.

Although most machines
come with a warranty for certain period, but it is not always practical
to send it away for repair to a service point. In some cases, the
repairs in your sewing machine are just minor and can be carried out at
home even with a little know how.

Basic maintenance of sewing
machines can resolve most of the issues that you may be facing,
including seizures or loud noises. In some cases, just oiling the
problematic parts can resolve the issue and you won't need extensive
machine repairs. Especially when you have a quality machine model that
is heavy, sending it far away for repairs can be quite cumbersome.
Before packing of your sewing machine to send it away for repairs, you
can try some basic repairs at home. This will not only save you some
money, but hassles as well.

Unclogging the machine

Continued
usage of a machine may lead to the accumulation of considerable amount
of lint, and depending upon the quality of threat that you are using,
your sewing machine may get clogged within hours. In some cases, thread
can also collect around bobbin and chamber. It can be pulled from both
these areas using tweezers, or a hand held vacuum that is equipped with a
special brush for clearing lint build up.

It is important that
you unclog your machine of all build up and debris before lubricating
it. Proper oiling of machine is essential to keep up its correct
functioning. However, you just need small amounts of high quality
machine oil and you must make sure that your machine is completely clean
before oiling it.
Tightening up the screws of your sewing machine.

Another
sewing machine repair that you can easily carry out at home include
tightening up any visible bolts and screws. Bolts and screws in any
working machinery will get loose with time, and this will cause your
machine to rattle unnecessarily. However, you should not over tighten
the machine screws, just until you feel them grip with mild resistance.

Allow the machine to cool

Another
useful tip for repairing your machine is not to overwork your sewing
machine. Continued usage with heavy material can overheat your sewing
machine, especially when it has not been properly oiled or there are
fibers caught in its bobbin. If you feel something is burning or your
appliance is unusually warm, you should simply unplug it and leave it to
cool for a while.

With the help of these tips, you can easily
keep up your machine in top working condition for years. However, if you
feel that it won't be possible for you to carry out some sewing machine
repairs at home, you can get in touch with professionals who can do all
simple to complex repairs to make sure smooth operation of your
machine.

Simple Sewing Patterns - A Great Way to Begin Sewing

Sewing is a great hobby to learn. When you learn basic sewing
skills, you can save yourself a lot of money. After you learn how to
read sewing patterns, you can re-attach your buttons, adjust your hems
and make a cute new outfit.

Many of us may have learned how to sew
from our mothers or grandmothers. Perhaps you even learned how to sew
while you were in high school, like I did.
If this is your first time learning how to sew, a great way to begin is by finding an easy pattern.
Quick to complete

Easy
sewing patterns do not take a long to complete. This is why they are
great for beginners. After you have prepped the material, laid out the
patterns and started sewing, the whole process should not take more than
a few hours to complete. Some patterns even include the estimated time
it takes to complete the project.

Even if you have never sewn
before, reading the instructions on the patterns can be done by anyone. A
great way to test out a project is to make a test garment first. That
way you can go over the instructions, check the fit and see if you
really like the finished product before making the outfit on the
original material you selected.
Availability

Simple patterns
can be found almost anywhere. Most craft stores have a sewing section
with beginner sewing patterns. The majority, if not all, of pattern
manufacturers have easy, fast or simple sewing patterns. Even if you're
not able to go to the craft store, you can find free and low cost
patterns online. Other places to look for patterns are your local thrift
store, consignment shops, or even at your local Walmart.
Variety

Although
though you select a beginner pattern, you are not limited to just
making an article of clothing. Simple sewing patterns are available for
handbags, totes, pillows, pillow cases and even curtains.
Because
these patterns are so easy to complete, most of these project can even
be completed by children who are just learning how to sew. Children love
doing arts and crafts and they will no doubt be able to complete their
first project with pride.

Easy or simple sewing projects are great
for beginners because they quick to complete, are widely available and
come in a variety of patterns. Check out a simple sewing pattern for
your next sewing project and you will no doubt be delighted with the
results.

I remember when I had my first daughter, my mother bought out of
storage, my first little dress she had made to bring me out of hospital
in. A sweet little white number complete with a darling little crochet
cardigan, to keep her precious bundle warm. Made with loving hands and
handed down to the next generation and beyond.
My mother made
clothing for us as though it was another chore; wash dishes, clean
bathroom, make four children their clothes for winter. As a new mother,
however hard I had tried, I just could not get enough enthusiasm to
spend time creating a whole wardrobe of clothing for my daughter. As my
family grew I did at times attempt, and finish (sometimes) clothes for
special occasions or fancy dress, I even made school uniforms (which, by
the way saved a lot of money!) But I have never made it to the creative
heights of those mothers that most of us had as a child.
Is home sewing declining?

To buy, readymade clothing, is just so much easier and cheaper these days.

For availability, it is extremely easy to purchase online, and have your purchases delivered straight to your door.

For those of you that have attempted or do sew your own and your
family's clothing, you will realise how much more expensive it is now
days to sew clothes. Fabric prices have gone the same way as designer
wallpaper, straight up.

For those short of time, nothing beats picking a wardrobe of clothing up from the local department store.

Or is home sewing part of the current revival of crafting and handmade products?

Sewing is fun! You're creating something to wear from a flat length of fabric.

Sewing shows your individuality: You are putting your personality
into your work, creating a one off garment that you or your family,
should be proud to wear.

You can fit to your body shape. No more buying clothing off the
shelf, only to return it the next day because it was the wrong size.

A
quick search for sewing on internet search engines shows that sewing is
alive and well. There are a myriad of blogs, forums and crafting
communities all aimed at sharing resources, discussions, showing the
world what you are currently working on, and giving information to those
that need it. Information from helping beginners successfully start
sewing, to tips and tricks for creating professional looking garments.
Websites
selling fabric, patterns and notions, are still doing brisk trade.
Offline, while there are still small stores dealing mainly in fabric and
notions, the larger retail craft stores are alive and kicking.
Sewing
is not dead, it may have gone underground for a while, but like me,
people are sewing, creating and sharing their creations. I'm off to the
fabric store!
As you'd expect with German ingenuity and innovation these sewing machines are well engineered and full of innovative designs.

Pfaff knows what they're doing. The company has been around for 140 years and still continues to amaze sewing machine users today. The Pfaff sewing machine delivers on its promise of quality, reliability and fun, and it has more than a century of development backing it up. But don't let the age of the company fool you; the newly developed Pfaff machine can keep up with the numerous trends that are popping up all over the market. Pfaff has developed their machines to be creative and at the same time easy to operate.

The perfect example of this is the Quilt Expression 4.0. This machine makes the age-old practice of quilting hip and fun. It has IDT technology that means absolutely even fabric feed from top to bottom. No more hassles of having to re-do your stitches because of unevenness even when working with multiple layers, so you can be sure that your stripes will always match. You have your pick of the different 9mm stitches that this Pfaff sewing machine offers. You can opt to mix and match, creating new looks that materialize right before your very eyes.

The large sewing plate with markings on both sides of the needle aid you in measuring your stitches, making sure they all have the right spacing. Bright lights illuminate the entire work area and are positioned in a way that casts no pesky shadows. The Pfaff sewing machine body itself is designed to have a large sewing space, so sewing big sized cloths for things like curtains and tablecloths will no longer be an issue. The foot pedal automatically stops when the needle is set to stop down in the event of a thread snip, or when the machine has reached the end of the cloth.

Pfaff has also taken care of all the small nuances when it comes to using sewing machines. There is stitch width safety and cut jump stitches, which automatically cuts embroidery jump stitches and pulls the thread tails to the underside of the fabric. The thread tension is electronically fixed and can be set for different types of stitches and embroideries. The feed dog is conveniently found at the front of the machine, and there is even an automatic thread snipper that knows when to cut both the bobbin and the top thread.

If these amazing features aren't enough, you can also incorporate your Pfaff sewing machine with your computer. Along with the Pfaff sewing machine that you buy comes 4D quickfont software that you can install into your computer to easily convert your fonts into embroidery text. There is also the 4D organizer, which organizes your design files, converts your designs into different formats, and much more. And last, but certainly not the least, you get a 1GB USB embroidery stick with your Pfaff sewing machine, so you can always have your designs with you no matter where you are.

If you want more information about sewing machines then check out this great Sewing Machine website full of great reviews tips and advice.
http://www.husqvarnavikingsewingmachine.org

Shaunhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03304428236034907411noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3024866153556637386.post-8799078102309383062010-11-03T03:01:00.000-07:002010-12-03T03:01:51.583-08:00DisclaimerI feel it only right to inform my web visitors that I am affiliated to some of the products I promote. There's many items I review which I dismiss as unsuitable and they do not make it on my site.

If you prefer not to see me getting any beer money simply go to the sites I mention yourself. I review products because I enjoy it, the chance of some beer money is secondary. But this skill is surely not easy and if their equipment is not up to scratch then it can also be very frustrating too. With this in mind, people really should find someone or some company that can fix sewing machines for them. A good sewing machine repair person is like gold and should be treated as such if good work is to be produced in future.

Many people these days will be clever enough to keep up the servicing of their machines themselves. There is always a reason to keep the qualified technician on hand though for those times when something more serious goes wrong and the fault is a little more complicated than normal.

For example, there is a lot of ancient equipment in homes that have been handed down through the generations. The usual service does not go down well on these pieces of much-loved equipment and they will certainly need someone with a lot of experience and knowledge to fix them without breaking them or damaging them in some way.

But for the avid do-it-yourself person there may be a need to look for a long-lost manual to give some pointers of where faults may be occurring. There are some very good sites online which claim to be able to supply any book or manual for all the different types of equipment so having a search here may provide some answers.

First, the make and model number must be established before the search begins so it may be a good idea to have this at hand. Once this has been established, then looking for the specialist sites is the next move of course. Indeed, some people saw the need for this kind of site and actually started collecting all kinds of manuals to serve as a basis for a thriving business and this is how these sites have mushroomed of late.

Some of the manuals have been entered onto DVDs too which is the high-tech way of imparting information these days and they can be downloaded in a matter of minutes. This is probably the fastest and best way to get their information to the client and many people have taken advantage of this situation. Naturally, some books are hard to find these days but through the use of electronic media, it only takes one book to serve endless amounts of people through putting them on DVDs.

These sites also have another advantage too since they often have a facility where rare spare parts can be found online. For those who have ancient equipment, this is a boon for sure and beats schlepping around a thousand outlets only to be frustrated in the search for that missing part.

Finally, who would have thought that old equipment could still be used in the twenty-first century? But these sites surely enable this to happen with ease for sure.

Connor R Sullivan recently found a reliable place on the web to fix sewing machines at a reasonable cost. His wife shipped her machine for a sewing machine repair.Shaunhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03304428236034907411noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3024866153556637386.post-85860707558476457312010-10-19T09:47:00.000-07:002010-11-19T09:48:36.055-08:00Sewing A Homemade Clutch Wallet

Clutch wallets are amazingly designed convenient, small size wallets that are specially intended for women. You purchase this garment, and the next day, you see the same outfit on your friend! There went your satisfaction!

Home sewing allows you to have exclusive garments without the time you take to go shopping, as well as giving you the personal satisfaction of standing out in the crowd. It's an awesome feeling!

Take this into consideration as well: What is your time worth? You went shopping for 4 hours for example, so what did that special garment really cost you? What about the gas it took to get you there? Was your time worth it? If you make it at home, you can make sure you have the accessories to go with this garment (preferable before starting), save on your gas bill, and save on your swollen feet!

If you do home-sew your garment, you can make sure that no one else has the same garment because you can personalize it! From the store, it's pretty hard to personalize it!

Home sewing provides a great deal of satisfaction, pride and a boost to your self-esteem (a powerful boost). It makes your garment only yours and if you do it correctly, it is half the price taking all things into consideration.

For example, when buying that special dress, it may be too long - it has to be hemmed. The neckline might be too loose in all the wrong spots; do you really want to hire a seamstress to "fix the neckline". That's another cost to consider.

If you're purchasing pants, they may have a "box crotch" and you don't have a clue how to fix this and you wonder if you have to wear them this way. A common problem is that purchased clothing is made in bulk, and no one seems to have the measurements that are required to fit these purchased clothing items properly.

Home sewing allows you to alter the patterns so that they fit you properly giving you a greater sense of satisfaction. Fittings at a seamstress place of business, or a shop are a pain and sometimes you think it's not even worth it!

If you home-sew your own clothing, you don't have to go through this hassle - let's face it, it is a hassle!

I like to make old clothing into new clothing for my grandchildren. My old wedding dress is now a christening gown for my granddaughter. I have intentions of making my late husband's bathrobe into a bathrobe for my grandson. I have been known to home-sew some garments for my family members and give them these at Christmas as Christmas gifts. These are always well liked and cherished.

If you home-sew something, you can pick the fabric that you really like, instead of settling. You can experiment with new looks, use your imagination, and come up with something new. That makes it all worth it.

Most people say that they don't have time. Actually, the rewards are so great from home sewing that at the end of the project, you don't seem to remember the fact that you have no time!

If you're careful, the frustration level isn't too high either. When you get frustrated, just walk away for a little while. The answer always seems to come to you in time. Just don't ever give up - it's not worth it!

I like to take some favourite item of clothing and making a duplicate of that same thing. I don't have to rip apart anything - I have gotten so good at home sewing, that I can clone my clothing without any hassle, ripping apart or whatever. I do this due to weight gain, weight loss, or just to have a second item so it can be worn more often. The only difference I make is the color, which changes it enough to satisfy me. Then I have 2 of the same thing, but in different colors.

There is lots of good information at http://sewingalterationandpatternsblog.com.

When you sign up for a membership or just for the blog posts, you receive a report on sewing machines. Having a designated area for your craft table will mean that you can leave your work out and it will not get in the way or ruined. If you are trying to sew on the dining room table then you will need to clear all of your materials way every time you need to eat. If you have to move all of your craft items then your hobby can become a problem and be an inconvenience for the whole family.

There are several different designs of sewing tables available to purchase and you will need to think about your needs and budget before you buy one. You will also need to think about the space that you have available. If you do not have a spare room for the craft table then you will need to store the table in the corner of a room. It is often a very small space that you can assign for your sewing area which is fine as there are many smaller tables available. You can find L shape, U shape and I shape tables all of which can look great in your house.

If you are fortunate enough to have a whole room for your sewing area then you will b able to fit a full size sewing table in there. This will allow you to have all of your sewing and crafts in one area for you to perfect your designs and talents. If you are not that lucky then you will need to look at other options for your craft table. Whatever style of table you decide on it must have ample working space and all of your sewing supplies at arm's length. You should also ensure you have plenty of storage and shelves you keep all of your sewing equipment neat and tidy.

If your budget will stretch to it you should have your sewing table made exclusively for you as it will then be perfect in every way. Although this option is fantastic not everyone can afford it and you may need to buy a shop bought one. These are ideal for many different areas and can be found in different sizes and styles. You should ensure that you spend a good amount on your sewing table to ensure that you get quality. If you spend more then you will get a better material which will last longer.

If you find a craft table that you like and can leave up all of the time then you will be inspired to do more sewing. Being able to go to a designated area and sit and focus on sewing will mean that you get more done and can be more creative. You will have everything close by to you and this will make the whole hobby much more enjoyable and easier to do. You can find the sewing table in many different craft shops or online and they can be easily delivered to your home for you to put up and start using it.

We specialize in providing the greatest selection of Sewing Table. When you have acquired the necessary skills, and, believe me , you will soon pick them up. You will be able to totally transform your home.

Take a standard pair of curtains and sew your own personality into them, make clothes for yourself or your children, virtually transform any piece of material into how you like. Think how satisfying it is to make your own clothes and home fabrics.

Ok you may have already figured that out which is why you want to take up sewing. The question on your mind is which is the best sewing machine to start with? Right. Ok let’s have a look.

This is obviously a matter of opinion and many will disagree with my choices. I only suggest and leave you to decide. First I would go for a computerized machine. These are the standard today and I firmly believe in staying up with technology. I really don’t see the point in learning on older machines when you can learn on modern computerized machines.

Some people would argue that it’s best to learn on older machines and move up slowly. This is a fair point but not one I agree with. If you’re starting from scratch you may as well learn on a new machine with all the mod cons on it.

If you learned on an older machine you would soon want to move to a more advanced machine and take advantage of all the computerized functions which simplify many tasks. So you may as well start on a computerized model

The good news is that the prices for a good machine are really reasonable and the functions these machines have are amazing. You can do things on a small machine in your home that required much bigger machines not so long ago.

There are a number of machines which I believe represent excellent value for money and which are good for beginners and experienced sewists alike. The Brother ES2000 is a good machine that I like the feel of.

The price is great for a computerized machine which has some automated good functions.

It’s not a new machine but it retains its popularity among beginners. It’s a light machine with a built-in carrying handle to make it easy to transport. It’s pretty easy to set-up and get going. It’s a bit of a jack of all trades machine which makes it a good choice for beginners. There’s so much to learn about sewing that you want a machine that will cover nearly everything. This machine provides you with that.

Stitch Patterns

With over 40 stitches built in you have plenty of choice, including five auto-sizing, one step button holes. The stitches include; zigzag, straight, overcast, blind hem, shell tuck and a number of decorative joining stitches and decorative quilting stitches make this machine perfect for learning on.

Presser Feet

You get seven Snap-On presser feet included with this machine. The full list of presser feet are:

* General Purpose
* Buttonhole
* Overcasting
* Monogramming
* Zipper
* Blind Stitch
* Button Fitting

One of the factors I consider when people ask me which is the best sewing machine for a beginner is how easy it is to operate. The Brother ES2000 fits into the user friendly category and is ideal for beginners because its bobbin winding and loading are nice and easy. The automatic needle threader is always a blessing, older sewer, like me, can recall the frustration of trying to thread a needle manually when your eyes just won’t focus.

The worktable can be easily removed to allow free arm sewing and it comes with a variety of needles to tackle all kinds of fabrics like cotton, taffeta, garardine, flannel, satin, denim and corduroy to name a few. There’s a twin need so you can sew parallel lines.

Experienced sewers may find the maximum speed of 850 stitches a minute a bit slow but it’s more than enough for most people and beginners will find it more than fast enough. The tension of the thread, a crucial aspect of sewing, as beginners will soon learn, is controlled by a dial.

What I love about computerized sewing machines is the way they point you directly to any problems that occur in the machine’s operation. The Brother ES2000 77 Stitch Function Computerized Free Arm Sewing Machine

has 6 error codes to point you to any problems that may occur. The manual explains what each code means very clearly.

Easy Digestible Facts:

Stitch Length: 7mm, programmable
Utility stitch functions: 37
Reinforcement Function: Manual
My Custom Stitch Feature (Create and save your own decorative stitches): No
Heirloom stitch functions: 9
Built-in Decorative Stitches: 21

Needle/Thread Feature

Needle Threading System: Automatic
Upper Thread Tension System for perfect stitches on any fabric: Dial
Needle Positions: Variable
# of needles: 1
Bobbin: Horizontal, drop-in bobbin, Quick Set™
Bobbin winding system: Horizontal

Machine Features

Maximum Sewing Speed (stitch per minute): Foot control
Free Arm: Yes
Presser Foot Attachment: Snap-on
Presser Foot Height Adjustment: Preset
Presser Foot Pressure: Preset

Get This Machine Here @ Amazon.Com

What Customers Are Saying:

I have owned this machine since Mother's Day 2005. I have not had a minute's trouble with it. In fact, I prefer it over my Bernina 1090! It has so many features you would expect to pay thousands of dollars for! I thought I would never be able to afford a machine that did all this. The best part is, this machine comes complete with absolutely everything you can buy for it--there are no extra feet to buy, etc., because this includes everything you need.

One night just for fun I worked through the entire instruction book. It is without a doubt the best and most complete manual I have ever gotten with a sewing machine. I was able to master every stitch function and attachment in one very pleasant evening. You really don't need another machine. The feet are plastic, which is GREAT--you can see through them. There is nothing cheesy about the parts--they all work exactly as they should. I am crazy about my machine, and its support materials. So crazy, in fact, that I recently bought the Brother serger here on Amazon, and it is just as good. GREAT machines. Why spend more? Buy this inexpensive machine and you'll have lots more money to spend on FABRIC!!

Manufacturer’s Warranty:

The machine comes with a one year part and labour warrenty, with two years parts only on electronic pattern control and a 25 year warrenty on shafts and rods. To ensure the warrenty on the machine is honoured always buy from a big company like amazon or an established dealer. There's no point buying from some corner shop which won't be in busines in a year's time.

The manual that comes with the machine is excellent. Very well explained and backed up with good diagrams and drawings. You won't get lost setting up this machine.

All in all this is a good machine to get started on. The price is right and it has many functions as standard. Some people would argue that it’s better to learn on an uncomuterized model. I disagree,;that’s like saying it’s better to learn to drive in a 1920s ford.

Click The Images Below To Buy This Machine.Shaunhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03304428236034907411noreply@blogger.com0
